Iberê Camargo

Artist of accuracy and sensitivity unique, Iberê Camargo is one of the great names of the art of the twentieth century. Author of an extensive work, which includes paintings, drawings, gouaches and engravings, Iberê was born in Restinga Seca, the field side of Rio Grande do Sul, in November 1914, having spent much of his life in Rio de Janeiro.
Recognized by its spools, cyclists and idiots, the artist had never joined the current or movements. Since the youth, he proved to be attracted by independent persons, as Guignard and Goeldi. In Europe, he studied with masters such as Giorgio De Chirico, Carlos Alberto Petrucci, Anthony and Andrew Achille Lothe.
Throughout his life, Iberê Camargo always had strong leadership in the artistic and intellectual. He had his work reverenced in exhibitions of international renown, such as the Biennale in Sao Paulo, the Biennale in Venice, the Biennale in Tokyo and the Biennale in Madrid, and has numerous exhibitions in Brazil and in countries such as France, England, United States, Scotland, Spain and Italy.
The painter died when he was 79 years old, in Porto Alegre, in August 1994, leaving a collection of more than seven thousand works. Much of it was left to his wife, Mrs. Coussirat Maria Camargo, and integrates today the achievements of Iberê Camargo Foundation.
